Kinder Readiness

Kindergarten is a huge milestone in a child's life and we want to help you have them as prepared as possible. Our Kinder Readiness program consist of four different classes and we'd love to have you join us for some or all of them! Read below for a description of the activities.

Story Time: Ages 0-5, every Wednesday at 10:00. Stories, songs and fun!

Kids' Movement Class: Ages 3-5,  on the second and fourth Friday of the month at 10:00. Fun and games to help develop gross motor skills in an exciting, musical environment

Kinder Skills Class: Ages 3-5, first Thursday of every month. Help your little one develop physical, educational, and social skills they'll need for kindergarten. We'll help them learn the skills while you relax in our courtyard and enjoy coffee and adult conversation!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten:  Ages 0 and up (but not yet enrolled in kindergarten), self-paced. Stop by the front desk for a reading log and instructions. This program encourages reading to children, which will help them prepare for reading on their own.

Who can participate in this program?

Any child from birth until he or she enters kindergarten can sign up!

How long will the program take?

This self-paced program may take anywhere from a few months to a few years.

Keep track of your reading to earn prizes!

After every 100 books your child reads, bring the completed reading log to the library and get a brag tag and sticker.  After 500 books, come in for an additional prize!. Upon finishing 1,000 books your child will get a book bag and will be able to pick out a book of their choice to add to the library’s collection. The book will recognize their achievement with a personalized nameplate!

How to Begin:

Participants can sign up at the front desk.  You will be given a reading log with instructions. For every book you finish, mark off a number. Books read by caregivers, siblings, teachers and librarians at story time count. You can read any books you want in any language - it doesn't have to be from our library!  And remember, repetition is great for growing minds, so feel free to read the same book more than once - each time you read counts!

What happens after I finish a reading log?

Each page of the reading log tracks 100 books.  Once you read 100 books, come back to the library so a staff member can sign off on the log and your child can receive a sticker or prize. You will keep doing this until you finish 1,000 books.  Once you finish your 1,000 books, bring your log back to the library to receive your final prize!

Can I really read 1,000 books before Kindergarten?

Yes, it's easy! If you read 3 books each day for a year, that's 1,095 books.  Or you could read 1 book a day for 3 years and still reach 1,095 books.
